MYST3 EXILE UPDATE
Now, if this were my only option I think these games are able to shine through all my problems with SCUMMVM and ResidualVM, and there are a lot of more obscure Windows games that would be all but unplayable on modern systems if it weren't for these, and for that they my gratitude, but I would always prefer a more custom-tailored update like the idtech games have gotten over the years thanks to the source code being released.
MYST3 EXILE HOW TO
In addition to leaving its flavor on the games, I find the scaling in Myst especially to be terrible, there's no way that I can find to mimick the games' original letter+pillar boxing, in Myst 3 when I tried it I had a problem where the hand icon was super small and I couldn't figure out how to fix it (it seems to run at a modern resolution without any obvious way of mimicking its original resolution, or even being able to separately scale the cursor). Now, for Myst specifically my gripes are especially bad. For DOS-based games I feel they are almost aways better played in DosBox on modern systems, and for Windows-based games it's unfortunately usually the best option (again, on modern systems) unless someone wants to go through the bother update the games on a game-by-game basis (this is why, though I'm disappointed, I don't hold it against Cyan for using them with the 25th anniversary updates). The configuration interface is ugly and difficult to get to for pre-set up installs (like games you can buy on GOG), and it tends to not be as faithful to individual games since it's trying to be the swiss-army knife of adventure game preservation.
